New City May 17, 2003

.jpg Descending, being sequenced for an approach to landing at New York's JFK.

.jpg I can see the New York skyline peaking it way through these clouds, maybe these clouds will burn off by the time I want to go on top of the Empire State Building.  The Manhattan skyline is too distant to my left to capture in this photo.

.jpg  Just walked from the gate down a long series of ramps to the ground level of the airport terminal area.  Looking at the directory for the shuttle bus phone location,  Seeing none, I opted to take one of many waiting cabs outside the door.

.jpg Just inside the cab looking at JFK Airport Control Tower.

.jpg  I attempted to catch a skyline from this moving cab.

.jpg Just about entering the mid town tunnel.

.jpg  Going through the mid town  - Manhattan Tunnel",  which is another $8 fee added to your cab fare.

.jpg  I attempted to catch the names on the overhead street signs, but blurry from a moving vehicle.

.jpg  My cab that brought me from the airport, parked on 34th Street at my hotel.

.jpg  Looking east down 34th Street from my hotel, I can see New York's tallest building, "Empire State Building", where I will be heading shortly.

.jpg  Looking north from 34th Street up 8th Avenue.  The "New Yorker", my hotel, a New York landmark on the northwest corner of 34th Street and 8th Avenue.  A handy location, being across the street from Penn Station and Madison Square Garden.

.jpg  The New Yorker check=in counter.  The hotel is now part of the Ramada chain.

.jpg  A blurry picture of the New Yorker lobby hotel chandelier.

.jpg  View looking out and straight across from my New Yorker Hotel room.
